Optus stadium hosts one or more from the elite teams in the world every year. Last year (2018) Optus invited Chelsea FC, one of the top 6 teams in Premier League to play against Perth Glory -the local team in Perth- in a friendly match. The aim of the match was to get Chelsea’s fans in Perth to meet their idols from Chelsea team which has won the FA Cup in that season. The players and their new coach Mauresu Sarri, also met the fans in the open training in WACA to give them the opportunity to get selfies and signatures. Moreover, the players met the fans in Rebel store before the match. Chelsea won the match against Perth Glory by Pedro Rodriguez’s goal who was nominated to be the player of the match as well.
In July 2019, Optus stadium gave the fans an opportunity to meet the best team in English football history, the team with 20 Premier League titles, 3 Champions League trophies, and more, Manchester United with all the star players and the hero of 1999 Champions League final, Ole Gunnar Solskjær as the coach of the team.
They played two matches in Optus stadium with an open training with the fans. The first match was against Perth Glory, Man United won it 2-0. Then, they played with Leeds United – old English team as well as Man United – and they won 4-0.
The best thing of these games is giving the fans the full opportunity to see their favourite teams playing live in front of them. Also, to show that Perth has many events to encourage the tourism.
